Summary

ChatGPT

The 1MORE Z30 Sleeping Earbuds prioritize comfort and simplicity, catering specifically to those who want to listen to soothing sounds while sleeping. With a featherweight design and snug fit, they are perfect for side sleepers who find traditional earbuds intrusive. The Z30’s balanced armature driver delivers warm, restful sound suited for sleep and relaxation, while the impressive battery life provides up to 32 hours of local play. Despite lacking advanced features like noise cancelation or touch controls, their focus on comfort and ease of use makes them ideal sleep companions. Minor drawbacks include quirky documentation and unsustainable packaging, but these factors do not detract from their overall appeal as affordable, purpose-built sleep earbuds.

1MORE Z30 Sleeping Earbuds Review

1MORE Z30 Sleeping Earbuds

The future of all earbuds is not in noise cancelation and AI. Keeping it simple can also offer value. The 1MORE Z30 Sleeping Earbuds is a case in point. These earbuds are, as their name implies, designed for sleep. They are tiny. They are meant to be worn not just while trying to sleep but while actually sleeping. That means they need to be non-intrusive, and they need to snuggle up to your ear canals, so they don’t fall out. They deliver on those needs.

My only caution, and I have had this happen with smallish audio products before, is to keep track of them when you travel. The case is small. Keep it somewhere near something critical, like your wallet or purse. Leave it on a surface that contrasts with the case color or leave a note for yourself posted on the hotel door’s swing lock. I’m going to be traveling with my Z30’s next week—and I plan on bringing them home with me.

What we like

Pros

  • Tiny but with good sound: Fit for purpose
  • Affordable
  • Good battery life

1MORE’s $89 Z30 earbuds prioritize comfort above all else. Their featherweight build, combined with ultra-thin earbuds, ensures they do not intrude on rest, particularly for side sleepers. The soft, skin-friendly ear tips and customizable ear-tips provide a snug yet gentle fit, catering to extended wear without irritating. The overall aesthetic is understated, emphasizing functionality over flash.

At only 2.7 grams and a sleek 7.5mm thick, the Z30 earbuds are designed specifically for comfort while lying down. The almost weightless feel makes them ideal for side sleepers, who often struggle with traditional earbuds that dig into the ear during rest.

The Z30’s balanced armature driver delivers audio well-suited for its intended purpose: soothing and restful. It captures intricate details in nature sounds and ambient tracks. The Z30’s sound is best described as balanced and warm, which proves perfect for relaxation.

Battery Life and Performance

Battery life is a standout feature, with Bluetooth® play mode offering up to 24 hours of use with the charging case and local play mode—ideal for white noise—offering up to 32 hours. Local playback will run for 8 hours without a recharge. The dual modes provide flexibility depending on listening habits, ensuring the earbuds meet the needs of those seeking uninterrupted sound throughout the night.

Connectivity and Controls

The 1MORE MUSIC APP’s soothing sound library is a significant addition, providing easy access to a range of sleep-focused tracks. The timer function adds a thoughtful touch, allowing users to set auto-pause options to conserve battery life during sleep.

What could be improved

Cons

  • No advanced features (not really a con for the Z30s)
  • Quirky documentation and app
  • 1More needs more sustainable packaging designs

The primary con is not a con unless I compare these earbuds to other earbuds with a different set of aspirations. There is no active noise cancelation or wireless charging and no touch controls. And for the Z30s, that’s a good thing. No one wants to futz with earbuds if they are trying to go to sleep.

As with many non-U.S. products marketed in the U.S., the 1MORE marketing materials and app could do with an English spruce up to appear more professional and communicate more clearly.

On the sustainability front, 1MORE needs to abandon plastic wrap and adopt a more sustainable packaging strategy.

1MORE Z30 Sleeping Earbuds: The bottom line

The 1MORE Z30 earbuds offer an attractive price point with decent sound quality and comfort. They aren’t meant to be anyone’s primary earbuds, and they certainly are not intended for audiophiles. They are, however, expertly crafted for their intended purpose, which is to offer soothing sounds (or whatever you want to listen to) as one drifts, struggles, or bombastically finds their way to sleep.
