EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1

The USB-C revolution is in full swing. I often find myself short of USB-C ports when traveling, rather than the host of legacy ports that I have needed in the past. Once all the accessories become modern, from portable displays to USB sticks, the challenge becomes how to connect them to port-challenged devices like iPads, small laptops or phones. There aren’t enough USB-C ports. Enter the EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1.

This adapter does many things but only includes one port type: USB-C. It supports 100W Power Deliver with 80W downstream to a computer (most of which need only 65W or less) and distributes 15W across four type-C ports and one 4K 60Hz video output. The box includes a 119.6 (50 cm) nylon braided cable so the hub can sit flat regardless of the device type it is connected to.

While the $79.99 hub is Thunderbolt compatible, it is not a Thunderbolt hub. This hub does not support the power, daisy-chaining or other features associated with Thunderbolt hubs like the OWC Thunderbolt Hub, which runs about $100 more than the EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1.

EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 is particularly useful for devices like the iPad or the Lenovo X1 Nano that have limited ports. A single USB-C port can handle a display, a keyboard and mouse transmitter (like the new Mattias USB-C nano transceiver), a microphone, and a USB-C drive like the 2TB PNY RP60 USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C Portable SSD with room to charge a phone. Or all of that on a phone. Plenty of options.

All in on USB-C? This is your mobile hub.

I highly recommend this hub for those who have gone thoroughly modern and work with modern accessories That means no legacy USB-A devices, no wired Ethernet, no DisplayPort or HDMI monitors. There are plenty of USB-C hubs that support legacy devices. This isn’t one of them. The EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 will require dongles to convert its USB-C ports into another connection type. If you work or interact even occasionally with a legacy world, get a hub that supports your needsโ€”we have reviewed many here. All in on USB-C? This is your mobile hub.

What we like

The EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 stands out for its sleek, minimalist design. Measuring just 4.6 x 1.3 x 0.4 inches and weighing approximately 85 grams, itโ€™s highly portable and fits easily into any bag, making it ideal for professionals on the go.

A notable feature is its support for 4K 60Hz video output via one of its USB-C ports, allowing users to connect high-resolution external displays without the need for additional adapters.

The hub offers an 80W Power Delivery pass-through, ensuring that laptops remain charged during use. This is complemented by four additional USB-C ports capable of data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, facilitating quick transfers of large files and efficient connectivity for multiple peripherals.

What could be improved

While the hub excels in many areas, it lacks legacy USB-A and HDMI ports. Users with older devices may find this limiting, as theyโ€™ll need separate adapters to connect USB-A peripherals or HDMI displays.

During extended use, the hub can become warm, with significant surface temperatures, when under a heavy load. Although this doesnโ€™t impact performance, it may be a concern for users in warmer environments or those handling the device frequently.

Priced at $79.99, the EZQuest Hub is positioned higher than some competitors that can run as low as $30. While its features and brand quality justify the cost for many, budget-conscious consumers might opt for lower-price alternatives.ย ย

I marked down the EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 on sustainability because it ships in a very non-sustainability designed retail box that employs too much plastic: a glued-on retail window (which means tearing apart before recycling the paper parts), a non-recyclable blister pack, and a plastic retail hanger, all associated with too much packaging (to support messaging and images) in the aim of selling the product in a retail setting.

Simplify, reduce and make recyclable. As I’ve covered elsewhere, from cardboard hangtags to paper inserts, the technology exists to ship and display products with well-considered, sustainable packaging that can still be attractive in a retail setting, and all manufacturers need to at least make an effort in that area.

EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1: The bottom line

The EZQuest USB-C Slim Gen 2 Hub Adapter 6-in-1 is a well-designed, portable solution for modern professionals seeking to expand their connectivity options. Its support for 4K 60Hz video output and high-speed data transfer makes it a valuable tool for those with USB-C-centric setups. However, the absence of legacy ports and its premium price may deter some users. Overall, itโ€™s a solid investment for those prioritizing performance and portability for modern work.
