Foxit PDF Editor+ Review

Adobe Acrobat created the PDF market and has long set the standard for document exchange, but that dominance comes with baggage: high costs, complex licensing, and a sprawling feature set that often exceeds what most organizations actually need. The market isn’t short on alternatives, but most simply mimic Acrobat’s core functions without challenging its model. Foxit took a different approach, emerging as a credible, enterprise-ready competitor that offers an alternative to Adobe’s approach.

Foxit delivers a lighter, faster user experience that strips away unnecessary bloat and focuses on essential PDF workflows—editing, collaboration, security, and accessibility. Licensing is straightforward, and pricing is often significantly lower than Adobe’s, making Foxit attractive to cost-sensitive organizations or those managing large deployments. Foxit also places a strong emphasis on integration and interoperability, with open APIs, cloud-native options, and support for modern collaboration platforms. Security controls and compliance features meet enterprise requirements without imposing Acrobat’s overhead. For teams that need PDF power without getting bogged down in the complexity of the Adobe ecosystem, Foxit offers a nimble, practical alternative.

Pricing runs $109.99 for the basic Foxit PDF Editor+ and $139.99 for PDF Editor+. Both products can be configured with an admin console for an additional $20, a feature those with multiple licenses will want to consider. Those are “paid in full” prices. Monthly prices are more expensive ($10.99 and $13.99 per month, respectively). Foxit also offers an educational discount for $49.99 per year, which requires a school email address. Foxit licenses run significantly lower than equivalent Adobe licenses, and offer a wide range of features not found in Adobe’s flagship product.

Here is a list of current differentiators between Foxit PDF Editor+ and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. (This list is not exhaustive. It was created in May 2025. Feature parity with Adobe Acrobat will change over time. Please take a look at the Foxit site for the latest updates.

What’s New in Foxit’s AI Assistant

  • AI Chat Enhancements: Chat with Images – Users can now upload images to extract the text in the image, translate the text, or even describe the image.
  • Analyze & Compare Multiple Documents: Easily extract key details and compare content across multiple PDFs simultaneously.
  • AI Bookmark: Automatically generate bookmarks based on document structure or specific page ranges, making navigation and organization easier than ever.
  • Intelligent Read: Documents can now be read aloud with improved voice options, enabling hands-free review and improved accessibility.

Foxit also supports common AI use cases, such as refining and enhancing text, correcting grammar, and fixing spelling.

Unfortunately, the AI Assistant is of limited value in the basic product due to its AI-credits access limitations (20 credits a month). The full power of the integrated AI features requires an upgrade subscription (2,000 credits a month). As compute prices come down for AI workloads, hopefully, products like Foxit PDF Editor+ will incorporate AI features into their core functionality.

What we like

Pros

  • AI-powered document assistance
  • Advanced collaboration and e-signature features
  • Centralized license management via Admin Console
  • Cross-platform support (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android)
  • Flexible pricing with subscription and perpetual license options

The integration of AI-powered assistance in Foxit PDF Editor+ streamlines document editing by providing intelligent suggestions, automating repetitive tasks, and enhancing overall productivity. This feature is particularly beneficial for users handling large volumes of documents, as it reduces manual effort and improves accuracy.

Foxit PDF Editor+ offers advanced collaboration tools, including shared reviews, real-time commenting, and e-signature capabilities. These features facilitate seamless teamwork, allowing multiple users to work on the same document simultaneously, thus accelerating the review and approval process. Unique to the Editor+ are AI-informed redaction, e-signatures with tracking and mobile support.

The Admin Console provides centralized license management, enabling administrators to efficiently allocate, monitor, and manage licenses across the organization. This centralized approach simplifies user management, ensures compliance, and provides insights into software usage, which is invaluable for IT departments.

With support for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, Foxit PDF Editor+ ensures users can access and edit documents across various devices. This cross-platform compatibility is essential for organizations with diverse IT environments and mobile workforces.

Foxit offers flexible pricing models, including subscription plans and a one-time perpetual license option. This flexibility allows organizations to choose a payment structure that aligns with their budget and long-term planning.

Value of the Admin Console

The Admin Console in Foxit PDF Editor+ serves as a centralized hub for managing licenses, users, and permissions across an organization. It simplifies the deployment process, allowing administrators to assign and revoke licenses efficiently. The console provides real-time insights into license usage, helping organizations optimize their software investments. Additionally, it enhances security by enabling administrators to control access permissions and monitor user activities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. This centralized management tool is particularly valuable for IT departments overseeing large teams, as it streamlines administrative tasks and supports scalable growth.

What could be improved

Cons

  • Occasional formatting issues during file conversions
  • Some advanced features limited on macOS
  • No free version; only a 14-day trial available

Some users have reported formatting issues when converting files from other formats into PDFs using Foxit PDF Editor+. These issues can include misaligned text or altered layouts, which may require additional adjustments post-conversion to ensure the document appears as intended. While we did not experience any of these issues, that the community of users occassionally reports them needs to be included.

Although Foxit PDF Editor+ is available on macOS, certain advanced features are limited or not as fully developed as their Windows counterparts. This disparity can affect the user experience for Mac users who rely on specific functionalities for their PDF editing tasks. That said, the web experience is very good. Mac and PC users may find the web solution more appealing in many cases than using local clients.

Foxit PDF Editor+ does not offer a free version of its software; instead, it provides a 14-day free trial. After the trial period, users must choose a subscription or purchase a license to continue using the software, which may be a drawback for those seeking a free, long-term solution. readers. That said, Foxit Editor+ is a creation, editing and collaboration tool–the world does not need more free PDF readers. Adobe does offer a free version, the Mac’s Preview app works for many PDF needs, as do the PDF features within Windows 11. Those who only require basic reading and commenting should use one of those tools..

Foxit PDF Editor+: The bottom line

Foxit PDF Editor+ is a robust PDF solution that combines advanced editing features, AI-powered assistance, and centralized license management, making it well-suited for teams and enterprises. Its cross-platform support and flexible pricing models add to its appeal. However, potential users should consider the occasional formatting issues during file conversions, feature limitations on macOS, and the absence of a free version when evaluating its fit for their needs.
