Ohsnap Snap Pack Review: A Clever Qi2 Battery with Pass-Through MagSafe That Prioritizes Flexibility Over Capacity

Portable batteries have become a permanent part of my travel kit. Whether I’m covering Comic-Con, working through a long conference day, or simply moving between meetings, a magnetic battery offers something wired power banks never quite manage: the ability to keep using the phone effectively while it charges. I’ve reviewed enough power accessories to know that convenience often comes with compromises in thickness, heat, or charging speed.

The Ohsnap Snap Pack takes an interesting approach to those compromises. Rather than simply attaching a Qi2 battery to the back of a phone, it extends the MagSafe ecosystem by allowing another MagSafe accessory to attach to the outside of the battery. That pass-through capability makes the Snap Pack more flexible than most competitors, though it introduces a few practical trade-offs.

The first thing that stood out was the Ohsnap Snap Pack’s construction. The aluminum enclosure feels more like a premium phone accessory than a commodity battery pack. The machining is clean, tolerances are tight, and the overall design complements modern smartphones rather than making them feel like they’re carrying emergency equipment. At about $60 during current promotions (regularly $70), it occupies the premium end of the 5,000mAh battery market, and the finish reflects that positioning.

Magnets often determine whether a MagSafe accessory becomes part of everyday use or ends up forgotten in a drawer. The Snap Pack holds securely enough that I never worried about it separating during normal use. Walking, pulling the phone from a pocket, or setting it onto a desk never caused it to shift unexpectedly. The magnetic attachment inspires confidence without becoming difficult to remove.

The feature that distinguishes the Snap Pack from nearly every competing battery is its dual-MagSafe design. Pass-through MagSafe means another compatible accessory can attach to the outside of the battery. The concept works, and it opens interesting combinations with wallets or grips that would normally have to be removed before charging. It is an elegant engineering solution that extends rather than interrupts the MagSafe ecosystem.  Pass-through MagSafe does not mean that both devices will charge if mounted on a MagSafe charger.

Qi2 support also makes the Snap Pack more versatile than an iPhone-only accessory. Besides charging compatible phones, it also works well with Qi2-enabled earbuds and other wireless devices. That flexibility makes it useful beyond smartphones and helps justify carrying it every day.  

Despite adding another layer behind the phone, the battery never interfered with camera use. Lens clearance remained adequate throughout testing, allowing photography without awkward positioning or removing the battery.

Heat is the Ohsnap Snap Pack’s biggest drawback. Wireless charging naturally generates heat, but this battery gets warm enough that I would avoid carrying it in a back pocket or placing it in an enclosed pouch while actively charging. The warmth never reached a level that suggested a safety concern during my testing, but it was noticeable enough to influence how I carried it. Wireless charging efficiency inevitably drops as temperatures rise, making heat management one area where future versions could improve.

Battery capacity also shapes expectations. At 5,000mAh, the Snap Pack is intended to extend a day rather than replace a wall charger. I did not perform formal charging measurements, but the capacity suggests a substantial top-off rather than multiple full recharges for today’s flagship phones. That aligns with Ohsnap’s positioning of the product as an everyday carry accessory rather than an emergency power reserve.  

Although the Ohsnap Snap Pack’s pass-through MagSafe is genuinely useful, it can also produce unexpectedly thick phone configurations. Stacking a grip, wallet, or other accessory behind the battery quickly adds depth. The feature succeeds technically, but some combinations become bulky enough that removing the accessory remains the better option.

The battery also covers the integrated kickstands in many phone cases. A magnetic stand can restore that capability via the pass-through connection, though doing so somewhat undermines the elegance of having a built-in stand in the first place.

Finally, the Snap Pack commands a premium price. The innovative dual-MagSafe implementation and premium materials explain much of that premium, but buyers primarily interested in raw battery capacity can find larger power banks at similar prices.

The packaging is primarily paper, and the glued-in cloth pull and plastic retail hanger require the buyer to tear the case apart to recycle it. Ohsnap! can do better. Don’t just think about the box opening experience; also think about the disposal experience. All that pretty stuff on opening gets diminished when you tear the box apart and pull the non-recyclable elements out.

Ohsnap Snap Pack: The bottom line

The Ohsnap Snap Pack succeeds because it rethinks how a MagSafe battery should integrate with the broader accessory ecosystem. The dual-MagSafe concept feels genuinely useful rather than gimmicky, the build quality is excellent, and the magnetic attachment inspires confidence during daily use. Heat and limited battery capacity prevent it from replacing larger travel batteries, but that was never its mission. For those already invested in MagSafe accessories, the Snap Pack offers one of the more thoughtful implementations currently available.
