Monoprice 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter Review: A Versatile USB-C Adapter for Budget-Conscious Buyers

Summary

Monoprice 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter: inexpensive, lightweight and capable USB-C adapter that works well with Apple, PC, and Chromebook devices. The addition of audio would make it perfect.

What we like

Like the previous Monoprice 5-in-1 Usb-c Adapter review, I found the $39.99 Monoprice 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter of solid build and a nice complement to any device. The 7-in-1 offers much more flexibility than the 5-in-1 which focuses on expanding USB-A ports. The 7-in-1 model includes 4K HDMI with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode, SD and microSD card slots, with simultaneous read/write (no microSD adapter requried), Gigabit Ethernet, and two USB Type-A ports, one of which supports 5 VDC, 1.5A charging. The USB-C port supports up to 100W Power Delivery (PD).

I took mine to San Diego Comic-Con and found the transfer of images between the iPad Pro 12.9 and the adapter almost instantaneous. Large video files took a little longer, but not much. I used to sit around and pair my camera with the tablet over wireless. Taking out the SD card is faster and more convenient. Ethernet use was fast and flawless. The attached cable is long enough it doesn’t dangle from an iPad Pro 12.9 when it sits horizontally.

The finish and cable are the same as on the 5-in-1, which is good. I like the icons on the top of this hub that avoid confusion about what goes where.

What could be improved

I live on my iPad Pro. And while I have no shortage of true wireless headsets, sometimes I want a wire, especially with Apple’s improved music offerings. So I wish the 7-in-1 adapter could be an 8-in-1 adapter with the addition of an audio jack.

Monoprice 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter: The Bottom Line

Monoprice builds solid accessories for those on a budget. I found the just under $40 Monoprice Monoprice 7-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter delivered performance across its ports, and work on several devices without an issue, all with a good aesthetic. A great option for travel or desktop.
