Solid 2TB drives that deliver a Star Wars touch wherever they are used. Increased speed over previous Special Edition FireCuda Hard Drives, but still no in-the-box USB-C connectivity.

Seagate Luke Skywalker Special Edition FireCuda Hard Drive Review

There isn’t much I can add to my review of the basic 2TB FireCuda External Hard Drive that accompanied the Spider-Man edition. The internals are the same save the faster, 7200 RPM rotational speed on the drive. The faster platter will translate to faster transfer times, a complaint from several reviewers about the other FireCuda collectors’ drives.

Like previous special editions, this one ships with unique LEDs defaults and new art. My Luke Skywalker Special Edition FireCuda Hard Drive glows blue beneath new Luke Skywalker art. The back of the drive arrives emblazoned with the symbol of the Rebellion.

The Luke art derives from his Rebel Alliance flying adventures, be it tackling the 2-meter port on the first Death Star or fighting At-Ats on Hoth. This is pre-Jedi Luke, the one who bravely abandoned Yoda’s training on Dagobah in an attempt to save his friends in the Cloud City of Bespin. Above Luke, an X-Wing fighter charges off toward the enclosure’s edge. The drive’s art is not a photograph from a Star Wars film, but original art created for the Seagate drive.

The drive includes links to downloadable software for Windows and MacOS computers that supports backup, mirroring, and restoration, as well as control over the RGB light. The drive also includes a PDF of the 1-year warranty.

Luke is joined in this series by Darth Vadar and Han Solo, each painted in action poses that communicate the heart of their character or the character of their hearts.

As with the Spider-Man drive series, and the Mandalorian Beskar Steel drives before it, I would love to see these drives ship at USB-C in the future. At minimum, a USB-C adapter in the box would be appreciated.

That box includes Seagate and Star Wars white stickers, a manual, and a braided nylon USB-C to USB-A cable. The drive also includes 1-year of Seagate’s Rescue Recovery program.

Seagate ships in a cardboard retail pack with a recyclable plastic blister pack around the drive.

Luke Skywalker Special Edition FireCuda Hard Drive: The Bottom Line

Like the Seagate Spider-Man Special Edition FireCuda Hard Drive, the Star Wars 2TB drives cost more than equivalent drives without the licensed artwork. (For example, Solid black Seagate portable 5TB drives sell on Amazon for the same list as these 2TB versions, $109.99 at the time of this review. The Star Wars drives sell for more at other retailers.) If you are only looking for a drive, keep looking. The Star Wars FireCuda drives were designed for collectors who want to bring the love of Star Wars into their work and play experiences. Who cares about the cost-per-terabyte when you can bring out a Luke Skywalker drive the next time you work in a room with other people.

Where better to house digital copies of your Star Wars collections and stream them during your trip on the Endor Express?
