Star Wars Grogu Tamagotchi Review

Cover video/gif: Daniel W. Rasmus and Serious Insights.

He’s dead. The screen is blank. He is turning his back on me. Oh no! Dark troopers! Such is the life of a poor host to a tiny electronic version of Grogu in Tamagotchi Nano form. I used to save Tamas from near-death experiences at the neglectful fingers of my children. Now it’s my turn to nurture Grogu, so he matures into a… what exactly is a Yoda anyway?

Star Wars Grogu Tamagotchi

The Bandai Star Wars Grogu Tamagotchi Nano is a delightful way to keep the magic of Grogu alive right in your pocket―if you pay attention to his needs, that is. The diminutive Tamagotchi Nano lets the owner/companion care for Grogu. Choices about his feeding and engagement shape Grogu into one of 12 appearances, including three hidden styles that are surprising to discover.

It’s not just about caretaking, though—there are two mini-games to enjoy, plus a third game that shifts based on how you interact with Grogu, offering ten different variations.

The Blue Version ($19.99) of the Grogu Tama comes with a handy chain, making it easy to take Grogu on the go. You’ll feed him treats like Squid Chowder and Macarons, but be careful—too much Squid Chowder and the Squid might just jump on Grogu! Expect some special guests to pop by every hour, adding another layer of charm to the experience.

Bandai also makes a Silicon Version with a Grogu head embellishing the Tamagotchi egg for $27.99.

Bandai includes batteries, and unlike most modern tech, this Tamagotchi requires no Wi-Fi, ever. The Tamagotchi Nano runs on two replaceable LR44 batteries.

I would love to see Bandai update the packaging with at least a recyclable blister cover over the cardboard back.

If you ever need a new Grogu, press the A button while pressing the C button. This will replay the scene when Mando meets Grogu. Your Grogu will be revived!

I just rebooted my demised Grogu.

I need to give him a cookie.
