Summary

The Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter is a solid USB-C adapter that offers 4K, 60Hz HDMI with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode, individually addressed micro-SD and SD slots, along with two USB Type-A ports, one of which provides 1.5A for rapid charging of mobile devices. The Type C port supports Power Delivery (PD) at 100W and acts as a USB-C peripheral port when not used for power. Otherwise, minimal packaging needs a recyclable blister pack upgrade or a non-plastic carrier.

Another well-made, attractive USB-C multiport adapter from Monoprice.

What we like

Like the other Monoprice Multiport Adapters reviewed at Serious Insights, the $29.99 Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter Thunderbolt 3 compatible white adapter brings necessary ports to port-starved laptops.

The 6-in-1 adapter supports connections to a 4K Display used with a DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode computer. The adapter supports an HDMI display up to 4K at 60Hz. Systems with DisplayPort 1.2 Alt Mode will connect to 4K displays at 30Hz.

The Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter includes individually addressed SD and microSD for simultaneous use. Both support UHS I Speed Class (104MBps) and the SD, MMC, SDHC, and SDXC formats. The adapter will read and write cards up to two terabytes.

The Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter’s USB-C port supports up to 100W via Power Delivery (PD) passthrough. It will rapidly charge a laptop or other USB-C-compatible device.

One of the two USB Type-A ports provides 5 VDC, 1.5A (7.5W) for rapid charging of mobile devices. Both ports support data transfer rates up to 5Gbps.

The Monoprice 6-in-1 USB C Multiport Adapter requires no drivers or additional configuration. Once plugged into a USB-C port, the adapter’s features become instantly available and can be managed via standard Windows, macOS or other operating system settings.

Like the other Monoprice adapters, the Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter offers a solid build, an attractive design, and good features at a reasonable price.

What could be improved

Although I use a variety of laptops and tablets, I use an iPad Pro M1 most often. As with other USB-C adapters, those without an audio port aren’t as attractive as those with them. Access to wired audio and a lack of Ethernet would be the only two reasons this adapter wouldn’t fit into workflows. While the 7-in-1 adapter adds wired Ethernet, none of the Monoprice adapters reviewed so far offer an audio port.

On the environmental front, the basic cardboard box is fine; however, the blister pack inside is not labeled as recyclable.. Monoprice needs to address its use of plastic in packaging.

Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter: The Bottom Line

The â€Ž3.41-ounce Monoprice 6-in-1 USB-C Multiport Adapter works well for those with HDMI, general peripheral and storage requirements. If the six ports fit your needs, the reasonable price of this adapter makes it a good choice. Those seeking a wired network connection need to look to the company’s 7-in-1 adapter.
